One of the North East's largest plant hire and equipment specialists has recently outsourced its IT requirements to Newcastle based Croft Technology plc.
Understanding that efficient IT is crucial to the firm’s future performance, Owen Pugh has enlisted Croft, a North East based company with 27 years experience in the IT industry, to design and implement a new IT infrastructure and provide a managed service to deliver their IT requirements.
Owen Pugh specialises in a variety of areas including construction plant hire, earth-moving and demolition contracting. In 2000 Owen Pugh also acquired Marsden Quarry, near Sunderland, expanding the company’s interests into quarrying and the supply of aggregates for the construction industry and lime for agricultural purposes.
Over the past 12 months Owen Pugh has made significant investment in IT. During this period Croft has implemented a brand new Cat5e network which included connectivity across multiple buildings on the main site, network infrastructure, switching, routing, application servers and software.
Croft is also responsible for all of the Owen Pugh Group’s daily IT needs. Their technical services team provides pro-active monitoring, diagnosis and resolution of issues, repair of equipment and support for staff via the Croft Service Desk. Activity is analysed and reported upon monthly.
In line with their mission to ‘integrate business with technology’, Croft has delivered comprehensive training courses to ensure that all staff at Owen Pugh fully understand and benefit from using the new network.
John Dickson, Owen Pugh Group Chairman said: "The total replacement of the IT system in our business represented a significant investment, and the fact that it has been undertaken on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to the business is a credit to the professionalism of Croft Technology plc."
Through regular discussion with senior management, Croft will also ensure that the new IT infrastructure fully supports their current and future business objectives.
Commenting on the contract, Mick Keeble, Business Development Director, said: "Owen Pugh is a large and well established North East company so implementing a new, high-tech, network infrastructure is key to the firms continued growth and performance."
"We have worked with Owen Pugh for a long period of time and we have developed a great working relationship which we hope will continue in the long-term future."
